We all think we’re going to sleep better when on holidays, away from the stresses of day to day life. Yet this isn’t always the case, as your mattress can play a huge roll in whether or not you sleep through the night. As the bed in our caravan isn’t the same as our bed at home, it would be foolish to treat it the same way. Use these tips for a better night sleep on your travels.
Upgrade your mattress
Fixed beds in caravans are nothing like our queen or king bed at home. In fact, even if you think you’ve bought a van with the same sized bed, chances are it will be a fair bit smaller, as caravan sizes always are. Irregular beds call for irregular mattresses, and caravan bedding is one thing you shouldn’t skimp on. If you really want to go all out, you can add a mattress topper to your new bed, and that way you’re sure to be comfortable whatever the weather.
Choose a mattress suited to your van
Caravan bed spaces are all designed slightly differently, which is why we stock a range of mattresses to suit different bed shapes. Standard shapes look most like the mattresses you’ll find in your own home, with a basic rectangular shape, but are measured in centimetres rather than single, queen and king. Cut corner mattresses are also available and are ideal for beds that fit into curved caravan corners. There are even mattresses with inbuilt bolsters to ensure maximum comfort.
Treat yourself to new pillows
If you’re upgrading your mattress, you may want to consider a new set of pillows as well. While you may be attached to your old faithful, many of us forget to frequently upgrade our pillows. After all, studies suggest we should be replacing them between six months and three years.
What else can I do?
Once you’ve chosen the perfect mattress for your caravan, there are a few other things you can try to give you a better-quality sleep.
- Whilst hot drinks are supposed to be perfect before bed, hot chocolates and other sugary drinks can give you a sugar rush, while tea or coffee will give you a caffeine hit. It’s safest just to take your warm milk plain.
- If you’re a light sleeper, there’s a chance you’ll wake up with the birds, especially with such a thin wall between you and the great outdoors. If that sounds like you, consider investing in a pair of earplugs.
- Similarly, if you’re staying in a caravan park, book early and ask for a site far away from the shower block.
- Turn off your caravan heating. You may not notice it amongst other noise, but there may be a slight hmm coming from the appliance which will sound noisier than it is once you’re tucked up in bed.
The best thing you can do to guarantee a good night’s sleep is invest in a high-quality mattress. By choosing a mattress specifically designed for your caravans’ specifications, you can avoid any unnecessary lumps and bumps, and you’ll be sleeping like an angle in no time.
