Having clean, healthy water to drink and cook with is important for everyone’s health, as you don’t want to end up sick while on the road. These are our top three tips on keeping your tank water healthy and clean:
Tip 1: Use a dinking or food grade hose
When filling your tanks, you don’t want your water to end up tasting like plastic. Make sure you have a food grade hose on board to fill your water tanks. Camec have a range of food grade hoses available in different lengths.
Tip 2: Use an inline water filter
To stop any dirt or foreign particles entering your pump, it’s best to have an inline filter connected between your water tank and the pump (show a diagram). For extra protection you can also use an inline filter when filling your tank. Connect the filter between the first section of the hose which joins to the tap, and the second section of the hose which connects to the tank inlet. This will improve the health of your tank and prevent the dirt from entering to begin with.

Tip 3: Keep your tanks healthy
There are a number of ways to keep your tanks clean, especially before taking off on a trip. If you haven’t used your caravan for a period of time or you’ve stored your caravan for the winter, it’s a good idea to check in on the state of your tank. By using Tank Clean, which is a powder-based product, or CleanOxide which is a tablet, you can protect against bacteria, fungi and viruses that can grow in tanks. They also neutralise unpleasant taste and orders. Simply add them to your tank with water and then empty the tank before filling it with fresh drinking water for your trip.
